Taxpayers can receive free income tax preparation assistance in Snyder this year.
The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) will have volunteers available at the Scurry County Senior Citizens Center to help low- and middle-income taxpayers file income tax forms on Feb. 18, Feb. 19 and March 26.
Volunteers will be available from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day they are in Snyder.
Volunteers will also be available in Colorado City at the Mitchell County Library on Feb. 27 and March 19 and at the Fisher County Courthouse on March 4.
Taxpayers should bring last year’s tax returns; 2019 tax documents, including Social Security statements, all W-2 or 1099 forms and health insurance 1095 forms; Social Security cards for each person listed on 1040 forms; bank information for direct deposits; and any receipts for itemizing deductions.
Taxpayers who will file their own taxes may pick up forms, and even file their returns online, at the Scurry County Library.
The library has received the 1040 and 1040-SR forms, together in one booklet, as well as instruction booklets. The booklets also include Schedules 1, 2 and 3 and are available for free. The library does have computers available for public use, which can be used to file tax documents online. A person may sign up to use a computer with their library card or their current driver’s license.
