Advertisers keeping Super Bowl commercials under wraps

I have long been a fan of the commercials aired during the Super Bowl. But this year, we will not get a preview of what is to come.

Over the past few years, we have seen some of the commercials during television specials or online. But not this year. 

Advertisers have decided not to release commercials before the big game. 

However, we are getting some teasers about the commercials this year.

In 1992, model Cindy Crawford stole the spotlight with her iconic Pepsi commercial. Well, she’s back and will be joined by her 18-year-old son.

The new Super Bowl ad, dubbed This Is The Pepsi, is part of the company’s “Pepsi Generation” campaign honoring the brand’s 120-year history in pop culture.

We also know that Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish is the new spokesperson in a series of Groupon commercials, including this year’s Super Bowl spot. 

Haddish, who recently made history as the first black female stand-up comedian to host Saturday Night Live, will combine her sense of humor and love of Groupon to explain to people why it makes sense to use Groupon every day as a way to save money and support small businesses.

Some of the commercials I look forward to the most are the Budweiser and Bud Light commercials. 

The suspense of what Budweiser will bring with its Clydesdales will be off the chart for many fans. I am sure the Bud Light commercial will continue the “Dilly, Dilly” promotion.

But I long for the old Bud Bowl commercials of the past. Do you remember those commercials — the long neck bottles battling it out on the field and a little Bud Light pony is the kicker making the game-winning field goal? Those were classics.

Snicker’s has announced it will not be airing any commercials this year, so we will not get to see celebrities like Betty White and Abe Vigoda chomping on the greatest candy bar ever created.

Another tradition for Super Bowl commercials is the release of movie trailers for that year’s big hits. With The Avengers trailer already out, I can’t wait to see which movies are spotlighted this year.

I hope this year’s group of commercials perform well. Of course, I do not think anything will top my top two of all time — the 1979 Mean Joe Greene Coca-Cola commercial or the 1992 Wavy Lay’s Bet You Can’t Just One commercial.

With businesses spending more than $5 million for 30 seconds, I can only imagine this year’s show in between the show will be great.
