Missing my theater time

I’ve been used to seeing a lot more movies than I have recently, and not just because of the coronavirus — though ‘Rona certainly isn’t helping matters any.
At my previous position, I wrote a weekly movie review. One movie a week can add up, especially when the alternative is no movies a week.
During that time, I saw a lot of great movies. Blade Runner 2049 was perhaps my favorite of the bunch. It keeps the wonder and detailed world of the original Blade Runner, while adding perhaps just a smidge more story and action than its predecessor.
Of course I saw the whole third trilogy of Star Wars films on the job, as well as the interstitial movies — Rogue One and Solo
There were quite a few superhero movies. I won’t list them all. If a movie has a super-powered guy — or gal — or somebody pretending to be a bat, I’m pretty much always going to be in the audience.
There were some real stinkers too.
Have you ever seen (I hope not) King Arthur: Legend of the Sword? This probably shoots up to the top of my bad movies list because I’m a big King Arthur fan.
I’m not, however, a fan of Camelot being overrun by ginormous building-sized mastodons. And yes, those selfsame mastodons figure prominently in the plotline of this steaming pile of garbage.
If you enjoyed King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, I don’t know what to say. In many cases, one’s feelings about a piece of entertainment such as a movie are entirely subjective and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. This is not one of those cases.
I’ve seen a few movies in the theater since I moved to Snyder, but my cinematic intake has certainly declined. Not having to see movies anymore, I have discovered that, often, there isn’t a movie playing that I want to pay money to see.
And now, COVID-19 has shut down the new flicks for the foreseeable future. Even when the disease calms down enough to allow movie theaters to re-open, they’ll be faced with a depressing dearth of new films to show. The virus has shut down production on movies for the foreseeable future, so there will be at least a month of lag time after Corona subsides before new content begins to pop up again.
Movie theaters can bridge the gap with old movies and cartoons. I’m sure I’ll probably go see a couple of those just to get out of the apartment.
But I’m craving that new 1980s-era Wonder Woman movie. The new Kingsman movie. I’m even looking forward to the upcoming Ghostbusters movie, despite the quite bad version we had a couple of years ago.
And I want to see them with a bag of popcorn, in the theater.
