DPS identifies Snyder man killed in Monday crash

Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials have identified the man who was killed in a late Monday vehicle accident in Hermleigh.

Pete Castro, 29, of Snyder was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occured at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 84 and CR 4126 in Hermleigh shortly after 11 p.m. Monday.

A DPS report states that Castro was a passenger in a Ford SUV that attemped to cross the highway. As the vehicle crossed the highway, it was struck on the right side by a 2010 Toyota SUV. The crash forced the Toyota into the Allsup's fuel station and sent Castro's vehicle spinning into the northbound lane of U.S. Hwy. 84, where it was then struck by a northbound 18-wheeler.

Castro was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:40 p.m. by Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Ricki Webb.

No other information has been released by DPS at this time.
