Shining Stars Sports and Recreation invites fathers and daughters to have oceans of fun spending an evening dancing, visiting and spending time together at its second annual father-daughter dance.
This year’s theme is The Little Mermaid, and will be an opportunity for fathers to show their princesses how they deserve to be treated.
Stephen and Michelle Read, who started Shining Stars to encourage healthy lifestyles, decided to start the father-daughter dances because of the impact a similar event had on their daughters when their family lived in San Angelo.
“When my older daughters were little girls, they had a father and daughter dance to which Stephen took them,” Michelle Read said. “They loved it. They grew up talking about that. We have pictures, and it was just a really special time for them.”
To make the night even more special, Shining Stars is encouraging fathers to go above and beyond:
Taking their daughters out to dinner, giving them corsages, doing a “big ask,” or inviting their daughters to the dance in a special way, holding hands or simply giving their undivided attention to their daughters.
“We want girls to know that they’re special,” Read said. “And who better to teach you how to be treated like a lady than your dad?”
She said that there would be door prizes, souvenirs and snacks at the dance.
There will also be a dance contest, with prizes for the best routine.
“When my oldest daughter got married, my husband and my daughter made up a dance routine for the wedding. It was so much fun, and they loved it and the people loved it, and it was them spending their time together, so that’s what we want,” Read said. “We want to encourage the fathers to spend time with their daughters, just that one-on-one. Because usually it’s the father and son doing things, so this really encourages the father and the daughter to team up.”
Shining Stars youth sports leagues include soccer, flag football, T-ball, and track and field.
They also host a mother-son dodgeball tournament.
The dance will be held February 1 in the Snyder High School Cafeteria from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 per couple, plus an extra $12 for each additional person.
Proceeds from the tickets will go to help Shining Stars continue to provide sporting opportunities.
Tickets may be purchased at Just D’Vine Gifts and More or online at www.snyderdance.com.
Michelle Read added that anyone unable to afford tickets was welcome to call (325) 650-2924 and speak to her about tickets.
