Doris June Murphree Byus

1933-2021

Doris June Murphree Byus, 87, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2021 in Snyder.

A graveside service will be on at 2 p.m. Saturday at Vera Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Byus was born June 26, 1933, in New Boston to Jim and Gladys Faye (Morgan) Davis. At the age of eight, she went to live with her foster parents, Howard and Era Mae Thorton in Turkey, Texas. She married Clyde Albert Murphree on April 8, 1949, in Turkey. They moved to Snyder in 1952 and raised their four kids. She later married James "Jim" Byus. He preceded her in death on December 1997. Doris June was one of the most kindest, sweetest persons that never met a stranger and loved everyone and everyone loved her. She had a huge heart and loved to hug everyone.

She was preceded in death by her son, Terry Albert Murphree; her parents; her foster parents; the father of her children; her husband; and four sisters, Louise, Patsy, Bobbie and Peggy.

Survivors include her son, Howard Lee Murphree of Big Spring; two daughters, Ina Mae Friday and her husband, Ken, of Del Rio and Lila Kail Cantrell and her husband, Billy, of Snyder; her grandkids, Brian Murphree of Quitman, Brandy Ellsworth of Wisconsin, Brad Murphree of Texas, Lonnie Friday of Del Rio, Mitzi Dildy of Waco, Clinton Lewis of Sweetwater, Cody Lewis of Lubbock, Lance Turner of San Angelo and Andrea Friday of Del Rio; her sister, Margaret Hamilton and her husband, Charles, of Muleshoe; two brothers, Jimmy Davis and Terry Davis; and numerous great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids.

Ina Faye Guynes, 84, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2021.

No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Guynes was born on May 19, 1936, in Snyder to Stanley and Eula (James) Camp. She married Johnnie Taylor Guynes on Aug, 1, 1953, in Portales, N.M. He preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2019.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Roy Camp.

Survivors include three sons, Johnny Darrel Guynes and his wife, Linda, of Independence, Va., Stanley Calvin Guynes and his wife, Sylvia, of Snyder and Randy Taylor Guynes and his wife Marcia of Capitan, N.M.; two daughters, Ina Kathleen Guynes of Snyder and Edyth "Edie" Mae Loveall and her husband, Donny, of Snyder; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and family pets, Tiny and Fido.

Herminio G. Jaimes, 89, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Hillside Memorial Gardens with Father Jeremy Trull officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Jaimes was born on April 25, 1931, in Epazotes Estado de Mexico to Aristeo and Paula (Gorostieta) Jaimes.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include eight children, Antonia Estrada and her husband, Juan, of Snyder, Gregorio Jaimes and his wife, Dolores, of Snyder, Jose Jaimes and his wife, Mary, of Snyder, Graciela Villegas of Houston, Adan Jaimes of Snyder, Herminio Jaimes Jr. and his wife, Erin, of Snyder, Maria Pineda and her husband, Beguino, of Amarillo and Dulce Chavez and her husband, Felipe, of Snyder; 29 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Pedro Ozuna Martinez, 66, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021.

Family visitation is planned from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Miller Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Snyder First Assembly of God with the Rev. Randy Asebedo officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Martinez was born on Feb. 18, 1954, in Acuna, Mexico, to Pedro Martinez and Hermenegilda Ozuna. 
He married Isabel Perez on April 8, 1973, in Acuna, Mexico. He loved his family, doing ministry work in Mexico and horses.

He was preceded in death by his father and his mother.

Survivors include his wife; his son, Tony Martinez and his wife, April, of Vidor; his daughter, Janie Yanez and her husband, Ray, of Snyder; his grandson, Aaron Martinez of Vidor; three granddaughters, Amber Martinez and Le'Ana Martinez of Vidor and Bethany Yanez of Snyder; three brothers, Manuel Ozuna and his wife, Bertha, Arturo Martinez and his wife, Caro, and Jose Ozuna and his wife, Bertha, all of Brownwood; two sisters, Marisol Cervantez and her husband, Jose, and Maricela Hernandez and her husband, Javier, all of Del Rio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Addison Dawn Perry-Franks, 39, of Snyder died Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, at Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder.

Mrs. Perry-Franks was born on May 10, 1981, in Big Spring to Donny Max and Rebecca (Smith) Franks. She married Lacey Perry.

Survivors include her wife; her mother; her father; four daughters, Mary Barnett of Odessa, Maddison Franks of Snyder, Savanna Franks of Snyder and Krystal Rose Perry-Franks of Snyder; her son, Robert Barnett of Snyder; two sisters, Jessica Thorn of Merkel and Becca Thorn of Colorado City; and her brother, William Thorn Jr. of Ennis.

Julia Anne Spurgeon, 76, of Snyder died Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, at Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder.

Mrs. Spurgeon was born Oct. 23, 1944, in Rome, Ga., to Winfield Otis and Addie May (Lanham) Spurgeon. She married Bobby Ballard Sr. He preceded her in death in 1998.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Survivors include two daughters, Melissa Wright of Snyder and Tina Marie Ballard of Gainesville, Fla.; three sons, Bobby Ballard Jr. of Ardmore, Okla., Timothy Ballard of Manteca, Calif., and Jeff Ballard of Rome, Ga.; two sisters, Linda Cothran of Rome, Ga., and Mary Broom of Rome, Ga.; her brother, Bill Spurgeon of Summerville, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Hubert Lee Starnes

Hubert Lee Starnes

1939-2021

Hubert Lee Starnes, 81 of Lubbock died Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, at Beehive Assisted Living in Lubbock. 

Services for Mr. Starnes will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home with the Rev. Ryan Ford officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr.  Starnes was born on Dec. 15, 1939, in Snyder to Hubert and Beaulah (Crumly) Starnes. He married Alice Johnson on Sept. 28, 1962, in Snyder. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Snyder for many years. He was a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, having served our country for more than 23 years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He worked as a projectionist at the Tiger Drive-In and later developed a love for electronics. Toward the end of his military career he helped work on the the Space Shuttle Columbia's ground avionics system.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Darrell Starnes. 

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kevin Starnes of Odessa and Dennis Starnes of Albuquerque, N.M.; three brothers, Johnny Starnes of Midland, James Starnes of Plano and Ronald Starnes of South Bend, Ind.; his sister, Linda Richards of Round Rock; and three grandchildren, Justin Starnes, Jessica Bly and Katie Starnes.

Catarino Vasquez Jr., 83, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Stella Tavarez officiating. Burial will follow at Snyder Cemetery.

Mr. Vasquez was born Sept. 16, 1937, in Somerset to Catarino and Monica (Lopez) Vasquez. He married Guadalupe Villarreal on Feb. 14, 1960, in Snyder. He was a member of Iglesia Evangelica Cristiana. He loved ranching, cooking, painting, chopping wood and helping anyone that needed help.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his sister, Esther Pena Vasquez.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Adam Vasquez and his wife, Angie Gonzalez, of Snyder and Sammy Vasquez and his wife, Nancy, of Colorado City; six daughters, Stella Tavarez of Ira, Janie Ybarra of Snyder, Dora Vasquez of Snyder, Mary Alvarado of Snyder, Esther Vasquez of Snyder and Ruth Yanez and her husband, Raymundo, of San Jose, Calif.; 30 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lydia Vasquez of Snyder and Sarah Cadna of Ft. Worth.
