Major given 10-year sentence

A Snyder man is headed to prison after his conviction on a sexual assault of a child charge.
Shawn Duane Major, 45, was given a 10-year sentence after entering a plea deal in District Judge Ernie B. Armstrong’s courtroom this week. He had been charged with sexual assault of a child, a second degree felony. In addition to his sentence, Major was ordered to pay $290 in court costs and $753 in reimbursement fees. He will also be required to register as a sex offender. The charge stemmed from a Jan. 1, 2019 incident. Major’s victim was younger than 17 years, according to court documents.
