The Snyder Chamber of Commerce Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund committee voted to recommend more $62,775 in grants at its meeting Monday evening. If approved by the Chamber of Commerce board at its meeting this coming Monday, the funds will be used to help fund 11 upcoming local events. The spokesperson for a 12th event, who had to miss the meeting due to a medical emergency, will have a chance to make his case to the committee at a later date.
The committee implemented a new rule during Monday’s meeting. Event organizers who receive funds from the HOT fund are required to submit a report, including information about attendance and the number of local hotel rooms filled by event attendees, within 90 days following the event. Starting with the current round of HOT fund disbursements, the applicants approved by the committee will receive 87.5 percent of their grant up front, and then the remaining 12.5 percent when they submit their post-event report.
In addition, organizers who failed to submit a post-event report on time for their previous Hotel Occupancy Tax funded event will be penalized an additional 12.5 percent from their current year’s grant.
The HOT Fund committee recommended the following funding:
•West Texas Western Swing Festival, scheduled June 10-13. Requested $10,000, committee recommendation $10,000.
•July 4 Celebration, scheduled July 3 and 4. Requested $2,500, committee recommendation $2,500.

Additionally, the Circle Bar Ranch Motorsports event, scheduled May 1-3, requested $7,500, but the organizer was unable to attend the HOT Fund committee meeting. Chamber administrative assistant Sandra Salinas was able to provide some information to committee members regarding the event, but members decided to wait until hearing from the organizers before voting on a recommendation.
