Multi-candidate races set for Hermleigh, Ira school board elections

The candidates are set for the Hermleigh and Ira school board elections on Nov. 6.
Seven candidates will run for the three seats on the Hermleigh ISD board while 10 people filed to run for four seats on the Ira ISD board.
In Hermleigh, the field includes John M. Harty Sr., John S. “Jack” Harty II, David K. “Bubba” Botts, Michael Hildebrand, Gerald P. Rodriguez, John “Big John” Pence and Justin White. Botts and Rodriguez are current members of the board and Jim Lionberger did not seek re-election this year.
The 10 candidates who filed in Ira were Jerry Jamison, Dirk Dunn, Justin Donelson, Megan Shultz, Bill Walker, Justin Taylor, Jason Gruben, Tanner Poole, Dustin Murdock and Kayci Wall. Dunn, Donelson and Shultz are current board members. Board chairman Dennis Taylor did not seek re-election.
The Ira board on Monday held a special meeting to call the election. No other action items were on the agenda.
Early voting will be held Oct. 22 through Nov. 2.
In Hermleigh, early voting will be held in the Hermleigh Community Center. In Ira, early voting will be held in the Roy Sallee Gym lobby. Both locations will be the respective district’s polling site on Nov. 6. 
A person must be registered to vote by Oct. 9 in order to cast a ballot.
