23 county students to compte in academic regional meets

Twenty-three Scurry County students will compete next weekend in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) regional academic competition.

Five students from Snyder High School advanced to the regional competition. 

They are Rena Morrell, spelling; Matthew Sharp, computer applications; Randy Hernandez, news writing; Caitlyn Crane, headline writing; and Ethan Gowin, poetry interpretation.

From Ira ISD, 14 students advanced to the regional competition. 

They are Tori Rosas, number sense, calculator applications, spelling and vocabulary, mathematics and literary criticism; Asher Fowlkes, accounting; Bryanna Brush, Lincoln-Douglas debate; JoMarie Sanchez, ready writing, spelling and vocabulary and literary criticism; Brilyn Loving, prose interpretation; Valerie Juarez, computer applications and spelling and vocabulary; Lesley Haley, spelling and vocabulary; Reese Camp, accounting and social studies; Carter Roberson, accounting; Breauna Hall, accounting; Lasey Johnson, feature writing and literary criticism; Kylie Miller, editorial writing; Sabrina Highfield, literary criticism; and Ben Fonville, headline writing.

Four students from Hermleigh advanced to the regional competition.

They are Haygen Halkowitz, prose interpretation; Brianna Rawls, prose interpretation and persuasive speaking; Stormi Cobb, poetry interpretation and informative speaking; and Rachel Russell, literary criticism.

The regional academic competition for Snyder will be held Friday and Saturday at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. The regional academic competition for Ira and Hermleigh will be held April 14 at Angelo State University in San Angelo.
