If all goes according to plan, renovation of a stretch of 37th Street will begin Monday.
City of Snyder Public Works Director Eli Torres said Friday that tentative plans call for renovation work on 37th Street between College Ave. and El Paso Ave. to begin Monday morning.
“That’s the tentative plan,” Torres said. “But it might be delayed for a couple of days, for either weather reasons or to give crews a little more time to finish other jobs.”
Age, traffic flow and weather have left that particular stretch of 37th Street in a state of disrepair, he said.
“There are cracks in the street that are getting wider and deeper,” he said. “Then, if you just sealcoat it, every time water gets in those cracks and freezes, the cracks widen even more. This project will prevent further damage to the street.”
Crews will mill off the top two inches of the street, then overlay it with hot mix and sealcoat before finishing up with striping and marking work.
If the weather cooperates, Torres estimates the project will take about two weeks.
Nobles Construction of Abilene was awarded the contract for the $477,000 project.
Final details about traffic flow and detours will be decided when city officials and the contractors hold a pre-construction meeting in the coming days, Torres said.
During a Snyder City Council meeting earlier this month, he said that the plan was to keep some lanes open while others were closed as the work progressed.
