619 cast ballots locally in first week of primary

With the primary elections half completed, Texas voters have until the polls close Friday — and then the election day March 3 — to get in their vote for their party’s candidate.
All early voting will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the first floor of the Scurry County Courthouse.
As of Friday, 619 Scurry County voters had cast their ballots in the primary, 33 in the Democratic election, and 586 in the Republican election.
On election day, voters may cast ballots at the Scurry County Library, the Scurry County Armory, the north and south sides of the Coliseum, the Roy Sallee Gym in Ira, Hermleigh School in Hermleigh and on the first floor of the Scurry County Courthouse. Polling hours on election day are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Republican ballot features two contested races for county commissioner and a race for sheriff.
Incumbent Terry Williams is facing challenger Bob May to represent Precinct 1 on the commissioners’ court.
Incumbent Shawn McCowen is facing challenger Dennis Poole to represent Precinct 3 on the commissioners’ court.
Incumbent Trey Wilson is facing challengers Raymond Guzman and Jeanette Pritchard for the title of Scurry County Sheriff.
The only local contested primary race among local Democrats is for county Democratic Party chair.
Incumbent Ed Vinson will be challenged by Lacey Franks.
Among Democrats on the state level, Snyder’s Addison Perry-Franks will face James Barrack of Lubbock for the right to challenge Republican incumbent State Rep. Dustin Burrows of Lubbock.
