Taxpayers can receive free income tax preparation assistance in Snyder this year.
The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) will have volunteers available at the Scurry County Senior Citizens Center to help low- and middle-income taxpayers file income tax forms on Feb. 18, Feb. 19 and March 26.
Last year nationwide, more than 1 million taxpayers took advantage of the AARP program and local volunteers said the turnout in Snyder was good.
Volunteers will also be available in Colorado City at the Mitchell county Library on Feb. 27 and March 19 and at the Fisher County Courthouse on March 4.
Taxpayers should bring last year’s tax returns; 2019 tax documents, including Social Security statements, all W-2 or 1099 forms and health insurance 1095 forms; Social Security cards for each person listed on 1040 forms; bank information for direct deposits; and any receipts for itemizing deductions.
Tax forms are also available at the Scurry County Library.
The library recently received 1040 and 1040-SR forms, together in one booklet, which also includes Schedules 1, 2 and 3.
There is no charge for these booklets.
The library has not received the instruction booklets, or any other IRS forms, and does not know when the instruction booklets will be shipped.
The library has computers available for public use, and these can be used to file tax forms online.
A person may sign up to use a computer with their library card or their current driver's license.
