Exercise is a part of life, and exercising with friends is a little more fun. At CrossFit Snyder, the Power Four Decades CrossFit team is made up of four women who were born in four different decades.

All Snyder residents, the team consists of Tammy Tyrrell, 57, Tanya Lytle, 48, Keely Green, 36, and Megan Conner, 26.

“The idea on the name initiated with Tanya,” Green said. “She realized we were four decades, and we’ve got a lot of power for decades.”

The team spent the month of January preparing for today’s Trinity Competition, a national CrossFit competition held in Snyder.

During the competition, the team competed in the super scaled division where they had to complete 12 designated workouts in the order that best fit their team’s skills. The workouts had to be performed within an hour, and each participating team performed the same designated workouts.

At today’s nationwide competition, a total of 204 teams competed in different divisions: 47 teams in RX, 15 teams in masters, 95 teams in scaled and 47 in super scaled. Of the 204 teams, 18 competed in Snyder.

“We all have a different skill that we bring to the team,” Conner said. “There’s a lot of preparation and planning that goes into this competition. Each workout has different levels of movements.”

Though each team member is in a different generation, Green said their diversity works well.

“With our diversity, it’s amazing that all of us came to the team at the same time,” she said. “We complement each other, and our strengths and weaknesses mesh really well.”

While some of the Power Four Decades team members knew each other outside of CrossFit, their bond was solidified in the gym.

Tyrrell has attended CrossFit Snyder for three years, the longest of the team members.

“I started coming after a church fitness class ended,” she said. “I heard about CrossFit, and it sounded interesting, so I started on my 54th birthday. What’s kept me here is the community of people who support and encourage each other. It’s really helped me in all aspects of my life.”

Conner has been at CrossFit Snyder for five months, but has done CrossFit for three years.

“It’s functional fitness,” she said. “You don’t have to be fit to come to CrossFit. Everybody does the same workout, but it’s tailored to fit your level. Getting in the door is the hardest part, but once you’re here, you won’t want to leave.”

Lytle, the newest to CrossFit, has been working out at the local gym for five months.

“I wanted to try CrossFit, so I came and stayed,” she said. “I stayed because of the community and the coaching.”

Green started going to CrossFit Snyder with her husband one year ago.

“We came together as a partnership and as a challenge for one another,” she said. “You can workout in the community, face stuff together and support one another. The encouragement from everyone is always there.”

All four team members feel that CrossFit builds confidence and can be a positive experience for anybody, no matter what fitness level or age.

“There’s a reason people come here and stay,” Tyrrell said. “Don’t think you can’t do it because if I can do it, anybody can do it. You give your 100 percent that fits what you can do. Don’t not come because you’re afraid you can’t.”
