The cast and crew of Snyder High School’s one-act play, A View from the Bridge, is hoping to go somewhere no production team has been since 2008 — the state contest.
Snyder will compete against Brownwood’s A Streetcar Named Desire, Andrews’ The Book of Will, Seminole’s Ugly Lies the Bone, Canyon’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime and Midland Greenwood’s The Kentucky Cycle: Fire in the Hole during Tuesday’s Region 1-4A contest at the City Bank Auditorium on the campus of Texas Tech University.
The contest is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. and admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Contest officials said no babies will be admitted into the theater.
“Advancing to the regional level is a huge accomplishment,” theater director Clark Reed said. “We are one of 24 schools left competing in conference 4A.”
Reed said the credit goes to the cast and crew for leading Snyder to its third regional contest since 2016.
“These kids never cease to amaze me. They come to rehearsal every night ready to work,” he said. “Each day they bring something new to the table. Some new idea that they think will improve the show. This is the most self-actualized group of students I have ever seen. They are hungry for success and work tirelessly to achieve it. I am so proud and these kids deserve a trip to the state contest in Austin.”
During the contest season, cast and crew members have received several honors, beginning with the top play in District 5-4A at Worsham Auditorium last month. At the district level, Brody Jasso was named the best actor and Whitney Tubbs was named the best actress. Bergandi Alvarado was named to the all-star cast while Collin Guynes and Brett Brunson earned honorable mention all-star cast honors. Johnny-Dean Maresch was named an outstanding technician.
At the bi-district contest, Jasso and Tubbs were named to the all-star cast while Alvarado and Guynes were named to the honorable mention all-star cast. Madison Mitchell was named the outstanding technician at the contest.
Last week’s area contest featured Jasso and Alvarado receiving all-star cast honors and Tubbs was named to the honorable mention all-star cast.  Noah Grant was named the outstanding technician.
