Snyder High School graduate Bergandi Alvarado will get one last chance to represent her school.
Next week, Alvarado will travel to Austin to compete in the Class 4A University Interscholastic League’s prose interpretation state contest. She has been practicing for the seven minute performance since finishing third at the Region 1-4A contest in Lubbock in April.
“It will be nice to close out my senior year at state,” she said.
This is the first time Alvarado has qualified for a state individual contest and this was her first year to enter the prose interpretation event. She is no stranger to performing as she was a member of the state-qualifying one-act play company.
“I have always liked to act,” she said.
Prose interpretation is better suited for Alvarado.
“I am not the improv-type actor. I like to memorize my lines,” she said of preparing for the state contest. “This is my stronger suit.”
While she plans to attend Angelo State University in the fall to major in mass communication, the acting bug may continue.
“I will have to get used to the college lifestyle, but you never know,” she said.
Alvarado, who received her high school diploma on Friday, will be leaving Tuesday for the state competition. She is scheduled to compete Wednesday and Thursday.
