After receiving $3,000 in donations Tuesday, the Scurry County United Way announced it has raised $96,769 in pledges and donations.
But that wasn’t the only good news the local campaign received this week.
On Wednesday, campaign chairman Mark McClain said he spoke with the anonymous donor who has matched donations in the past and the donor said he would match all donations made between today and Dec. 31 on a two-to-one basis. That means for every dollar donated on the local level, the anonymous donor will give $2, effectively tripling the donation.
McClain said the donor told him he was very proud that the campaign had raised as much as it had, and encouraged others who had not already done so to donate.
“I am thankful that he decided to offer this challenge as a way to give the campaign a boost as we move toward our goal and then as we work to go above it,” McClain said.
With 81 percent of the goal reached, the campaign needs $23,230 to reach $120,000.
With the end of the year approaching, Executive Secretary Peggy Vernon reminds donors that donations to the campaign are tax-deductible.
Donations may be dropped off at the United Way office, located at 2311 Ave. T, between 10 a.m. and noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Donations may be mailed to P.O. Box 1411, Snyder, TX 79550 or made through the United Way campaign website, www.scurrycountyunitedway.org.
The United Way campaign supports nine local agencies. They are Gateway Family Services, Boy Scouts-Buffalo Trail Council, Girl Scouts of Texas-Oklahoma Plains, Snyder Day Care Center, the Snyder Volunteer Fire Department, the Scurry County Food Cupboard, West Texas Children’s Advocacy Center, Cancer Services Network and Snyder We Care.
