When it meets Monday, the Scurry County Junior College District board is expected to accept the resignation of a board member and hear recommendations to fill the vacancy.

Board member Scott Richburg has submitted his intent to resign from the board. The meeting’s agenda calls for notice of the resignation, followed by recommendations to fill the slot and administration of the oath of office to, and installation of, a new board member.

The board will also consider granting approval to fill a vacant physics instructor position.

In other business, the board will consider approval of bids on tax deeds for trust property in the City of Snyder, and consider approval of the latest legal policy update from the Texas Association of School Boards, designated Update 38.

Board members will also hear an update on personnel from WTC President Dr. Barbara Beebe, as well as a presentation of the May college calendar.

The board will adjourn into closed session at the end of the meeting to consult with legal counsel regarding personnel matters. Any action arising from the closed session will be handled when the board reconvenes in open session.

A time for public comment will be provided at the start of the meeting.

The meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the college’s Visitor Center and is open to the public. Social distance guidelines will be followed.

Snyder ISD Workshop

Snyder ISD will hold a Mission and Vision Planning workshop at 4 p.m. Monday. The workshop, conducted online by Zoom, will be open to the public.

Participants, including the board of trustees, district administration, the District Education Improvement Committee (DEIC) and other local leaders will discuss the district’s mission and vision for the future.

“We’re just updating the mission and vision statements for the district, like ‘What is our core mission?’ ‘What is our vision?’ and within those, then you develop core beliefs, ‘what do we believe?’” said Superintendent Dr. Eddie Bland. “The next step, we call it developing a ‘portrait of a graduate.’ When you graduate from Snyder High School, what do we want? What’s that supposed to be? Is it ‘ready for college?’ Is that it? Or is it ‘social-emotional maturity?’ They’ll be working on that.”

Commissioners

Scurry County Commissioners will review requirements for a Texas Department of Transportation (TXDoT) road grant Tuesday.

Commissioners will consider designating county roads as needing repair, reconstruction and/or renovation, as well as schedule the work, as required for a TXDoT grant. They will also estimate cost of projects and the impact on the 2021 county budget.

Commissioners will also consider requirements issued by the Office of Court Administration, as well as routine financial items.

The 10 a.m. meeting is open to the public. A time for public comment on non-agenda items will be held during the meeting.
