The Scurry County Appraisal District (SCAD) board of directors will consider a settlement offer in the lawsuit Kinder Morgan has brought against the appraisal district when it meets Tuesday morning.

Before discussing the matter in open session, the board will meet in closed session to confer with the district’s attorney. 

Board members will also receive an update on the district’s litigation expenses and vote on proposed budget amendments for attorney fees totaling $100,000.

They will vote whether to seek that additional $100,000 to pay for the attorney fees from the taxing entities.

The board will also vote on SCAD’s 2021 budget, switching life insurance and retirement planning providers to John Hancock Financial Services, and a Texas Municipal League health insurance benefit to the City of Snyder’s insurance plan via Deer Oaks Employee Assistance Program.

Board members will discuss the 2020 Mass Appraisal report and 2020 cybersecurity training and plan.

Chief Appraiser Jacqueline Martin will update the board on 2019 values, a preliminary value estimate for 2020 and an update on the Appraisal Review Board appeals process.

The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Scurry County Appraisal District’s office, 2612 College Ave. and is open to the public.

Newly re-elected Scurry County Junior College District board members will take the oath of office during the board’s meeting Monday, and the board will elect officers for the current term.

In other business, the board will vote whether to approve May 2020 financial information and a bid on a tax deed for trust property in the City of Snyder.

The board will also vote on Western Texas College’s June calendar.

The board may meet in closed session to consult with legal counsel and to deliberate on employment matters. If the board takes action on any items discussed in the closed session, it will return to open session to do so. 

A time for public comment will be provided at the start of the meeting.

The board will meet at 12:30 p.m. Monday in the Visitor’s Center at Western Texas College. The meeting is open to the public.

Chamber HOT Fund Committee

The Snyder Chamber of Commerce Hotel Occupancy Tax fund committee will consider three requests for funds Monday.

Luis Alaniz, representing the Diez y Seis de Septiembre celebration scheduled Sept. 11 and 12, will request $8,000; Ellie Gonzales, representing the Snyder Bike Rally scheduled Oct. 2 through 4, will request $10,000; and Chamber of Commerce Events Coordinator Josh Ortegon, representing White Buffalo Days scheduled Oct. 2 and 3, will request $8,000.

The meeting will take place in the chamber boardroom, 2302 Ave. R and is open to the public.
