Armstrong sentences five men to prison

Five men are heading to a Texas Department of Criminal Justice facility following action in District Judge Ernie B. Armstrong’s courtroom recently.
Jeremy Alexander Emerson, 27, of Snyder, was sentenced to prison after his probated sentence for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, was revoked. He was originally given five years deferred adjudication, $60 in court costs and ordered to participate in the TAIP program.
Court records stated Emerson attacked a public servant on March 20, failed a drug test on Oct. 28, 2014, failed to report to a probation performance review on Dec. 11, 2014 and failed to report to his probation officer and make monthly probation payments and service fees in November 2014, December 2014 and January 2015.
In having his guilt adjudicated, Emerson was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison and ordered to pay $610 in  court and attorney fees and $1,903 in restitution.
According to court documents, Emerson was indicted for using a beer bottle during an assault on June 21, 2013.
David Gomez Jr., 30, of Colorado City, pleaded guilty to state-jail felony theft for a Dec. 3, 2014 offense. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine, $13,694 in restitution and $919 in court and attorney fees. His sentence will begin when he completes a prison term for possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, in Taylor County.
According to court documents, Gomez stole a Miller welder, welding torch, vise, oxygen bottle, acetylene bottle, tool box, assorted hand tools, welding leads and a homemade 16-foot trailer from his victim. The items were valued at more than $1,500, but less than $20,000.
Darrell Ray Shaver, 41, of Hermleigh, will serve five years in prison for bail jumping/failure to appear, a third-degree felony. He was also ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and $909 in court and attorney fees.
On Dec. 10, Shaver failed to report to a hearing concerning the original charge of theft of less than $1,500 with previous convictions.
John Tower Wilson, 24, of Snyder, was sentenced to three years in prison for the April 19 offense of assault, family violence, a third-degree felony. He was also ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and $919 in court and attorney fees.
He pleaded guilty to applying pressure to his victims neck and throat, court documents stated.
Christopher Steve Cruz, 37, of Fort Worth will serve two 10-year sentences concurrently for bail jumping/failure to appear and driving while intoxicated (DWI), third or more offense.
Cruz pled guilty to bail jumping/failure to appear, a third-degree felony, and must play a $1,500 fine and $909 in  court and attorney fees. He failed to show up for a court hearing concerning the DWI charge on Dec. 10.
On the DWI charge, he was ordered to pay $233 in restitution and $1,094 in court costs. He was charged with DWI in May 31.
