An autopsy for a Levelland man who died at an oilfield site in Scurry County was scheduled for today.

Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Ricki Webb identified the man as Martin Demel, 61.

The autopsy will be performed in Lubbock to determine the cause of death.

On Friday, Demel was working at an oilfield site located two miles south of Sheppard Crossing on FM 2835 when he collapsed.

Co-workers called 911 at 4:51 p.m., saying it appeared he had been electrocuted.

Five Scurry County EMS and Snyder Fire Department units, along with Scurry County sheriff’s deputies, responded to the scene.

At 5 p.m., it was reported that Demel was no longer breathing and that CPR was being administered.

Demel was transported by ambulance to Cogdell Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by Webb at 5:59 p.m. Friday.
