Jonathan Barrow fulfilled a lifelong dream at Tiger Stadium Friday night.
The Snyder and Stephenville football teams simulated a play prior to the game. Snyder head coach James Polk called timeout and sent Barrow into the game for Jaden Zamora at running back.
Barrow, escorted by the Tigers, lined up in the backfield and scored a touchdown by steering his wheelchair through the middle of the Stephenville defense. He received a standing ovation from fans on both sides of the stadium.
Barrow learned Friday morning that he would be joining the Snyder offense and spent the day preparing for the game.
Two Stephenville players fell to the ground after Barrow rolled past them on his way to the end zone.
The Barrows moved to Snyder 25 years ago from Louisiana.
It gas been a journey Barrow, who graduated from Snyder High School in 2001. He developed a close relationship with coaches and players and earned the title of being the Snyder Tigers’ No. 1 fan.
“Jonathan was excited all day waiting for this to happen,”  said Suzanne Barrow, his mother. “He put on his jersey around 3 p.m. before taking a nap. He loves the Snyder Tigers and always will. He was so excited about this.”
Johnny Barrow could hardly wait to see his son cross the goal line.
“It’s great for Jonathan,” Johnny Barrow said. “He loves football and the Snyder Tigers. Other than church, sports is his life. I’m excited for him. Thanks to coach Polk and Snyder ISD, and also Stephenville, for allowing all of this to happen.”
Suzanne Barrow said that she was overwhelmed by the community’s support of her son on  a daily basis.
“I’m thrilled with the community for how they love Jonathan,” she said. “I want to thank everyone for doing this. It’s making Jonathan feel good about himself.”
One of Barrow’s favorite things to do is spend time with the Tigers, especially celebrating birthdays.
“All of the teams always liked to celebrate with him,” she said. “They’ve been good to him and became his friends. It was so exciting to see him score the touchdown. I’m one proud mom. This was a wonderful thing.”
Johnny Barrow was emotional watching his son score.
“He has been very excited about all of this,” he said. “I’m like my dad and get emotional about anything that happens to my kids and family. It was very emotional.”
