Battling a grass fire

  • A grass fire started by down electrical lines burned five acres near U.S. Hwy. 180, approximately six miles west of Snyder, on Monday. The Snyder Fire Department first received the call at 5:40 p.m. and sent five trucks and 16 firefighters to put out the fire. Deputy Fire Marshal Brad Bawcum said the fire was slowed by a cotton field, otherwise it could have spread more quickly.
