The Board of County Development (BCD) is increasing the amount of money it will give area businesses to help with exterior improvements.
During their meeting today, BCD members voted to increase the maximum Business Improvement Initiative Program (BIIP) reimbursements from $1,000 to $1,500.
BIIP is designed to provide at least partial reimbursement to businesses that spend at least $2,000 on exterior improvements to their property.
Chairperson Chloanne Lindsey’s suggestion of $1,500 as the new reimbursement cap was quickly accepted by other board members.
After setting the new limit, the board granted BIIP funds to four Snyder businesses. Le Nails and Spa, Blessed Nest and Sweet P’s Flowers will receive $1,500, while Independent Pre-School will receive $425.
Lindsey encouraged Scurry County businesses to take advantage of the program.
“I don’t know that a lot of people know about it,” she said. “We’re hoping to get more participation. Every improvement in Snyder helps and makes the community more attractive.”
In other business, the BCD approved payments of $2,733 to the Snyder Chamber of Commerce for the July 4 fireworks display and $3,700 for advertising in the upcoming Snyder Daily News’ Community and Visitors Guide.
