Scurry County residents are asked to join in and help ring in Constitution Week Tuesday afternoon.
The Martin Pruett Jr. Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will host a Bells Across America event to celebrate Constitution Week at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday in front of First Presbyterian Church.
“Local DAR chapters throughout America will be joining in the ringing of bells to honor the unique document which is the foundation and framework of our republic and to mark the beginnings of Constitution Week,” said Jackie McNew of the local DAR chapter.
Following an introduction by McNew, Snyder Mayor Tony Wofford will proclaim this week Constitution Week in Snyder. Snyder Daily News Publisher Bill Crist will then share his thoughts about the constitution and, at 3 p.m., he will ring the bell at the corner of the church property. In addition, Snyder Fire Department personnel will ring the bell on their ladder truck, joined by Historic Scurry County, Inc., who will ring the Heritage Village’s school bell and chapel bell.
“We hope that anyone who hears the bells ring will be reminded of the rights, responsibilities and blessings available to us because of this wonderful constitution of ours,” McNew said.
