Rep. Dustin Burrows, R-Lubbock, was assigned to the agriculture and livestock and investment and financial services committee by Texas House Speaker Joe Straus.

“These committees are chaired by two colleagues who I admire very much. I’m eager to work with Ag Chair Tracy King and the Chair of the Investment and Financial Services Committee, Rep. Tan Parker,” Burrows said. “These committees are aligned with issues front and center for all West Texans — agriculture for the critical function our farmers and ranchers fulfill, and, for financial services, ensuring our banks — particularly those in our rural areas, are provided the tools they need to grow and service their customers.”

Straus announced the committee assignments on Thursday.

“We want to utilize members’ strengths and allow them to work on issues that matter to their districts,” Straus said.

The House has 38 standing committees and Straus established two select committees — the select committee on state and federal power and responsibility and the select committee on Texas ports, innovation and infrastructure.

Rep. Drew Darby, R-San Angelo, will chair the select committee on state and federal power and responsibility and energy resources. Darby will also be a member of the redistricting and ways and means committee.

Eight House members will chair committees for the first time, while 11 returning chairs are leading new committees.

“These assignments reflect the diversity of the Texas House,” Straus said. “Some very good members are taking on new challenges. I’m looking forward to their leadership. There is always a balance to strike between continuity and fresh thinking, and I think we have the right mix.”
