Candidate filing for May 2 local election starts Jan. 15

The City of Snyder, Snyder ISD, Western Texas College and Cogdell Memorial Hospital will all have members of their governing boards up for election May 2. 
Ira ISD and Hermleigh ISD will wait until November for their elections, according to those districts’ superintendents, Brian Patterson for Ira and Cassie Petty for Hermleigh.
Those interested in running for seats on any of these boards may file weekdays starting Jan. 15 and continuing through Feb. 14. Filing should be done at the administrative headquarters for the entity in question: Snyder City Hall for a city council position, the Snyder ISD administration office for its board of trustees, the WTC administration building for its board of directors and at Cogdell Memorial Hospital for its board of trustees.
The city’s council four single-member district seats are up for election. Those seats are currently held by Vernon Clay, District 1; Steve Rich, District 2; Steve Highfield, District 3; and Thomas Strayhorn, District 4.
The Snyder school district has three places up for election. Those seats are currently held by Ronnie Anderson, District 1; Carrie Richardson, District 4; and Doug Neff, District 5.
The Scurry County Junior College District (WTC) currently has two at-large positions up for election.  
Those seats are currently held by Drew Bullard and Mike McWilliams.
The Scurry County Hospital District (Cogdell) currently has three seats up for election. 
Those seats are currently held by Loretta McCravey, District 2; Benny Marricle, District 4; and Andrea Martini in an at-large seat.
Early voting will be held April 20-24 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on April 27 and 28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Early voting and election day voting will be held at College on the Square, located at 1801 26th Street.

Just the Facts
Here are the qualifications to file for seats on the Snyder City Council, the Snyder ISD Board of Trustees, the Scurry County Junior College District board, and the Scurry County Hospital District board:
City of Snyder
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Be a resident of the City of Snyder.
• Be a registered voter of the city.
• Must have lived in Snyder for not less than one year immediately preceding the election.
• Cannot hold another public office or employment with the City of Snyder.
• Cannot be delinquent in any indebtedness to the City of Snyder.
• Council members representing a single-member district must live within that district.
Snyder ISD
• Be a United States citizen.
• Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable.
• Have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising pro-bate jurisdiction to be totally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.
• Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities.
• Be a resident of Texas and the territory from which the office is elected. A person for a numbered place on the board must live within that area.
• Be registered to vote.
Scurry County Junior College District (WTC)
• Be a United States citizen.
• Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable.
• Have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.
• Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities.
• Have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months immediately preceding the regular filing deadline for a candidate's application for a place on the ballot.
• Be registered to vote in the territory from which the office is elected by the regular filing deadline for the candidate’s application for a place on the ballot.
•    Candidates for trustee representing a single-member district must be a resident of the trustee district the candidate seeks to represent.
Scurry County Hospital District (Cogdell Memorial Hospital)
• A candidate must be a registered voter.
• A candidate must be a resident in the Scurry County Hospital District.
• A person who is elected from a single-member precinct or who is appointed to represent a vacancy for a single-member precinct must be a resident of that single-member precinct.
