The Cavendar Road truck bypass might be open as early as this weekend, Scurry County Judge Ricky Fritz said.
The 1.8-mile long road, which connects Hwy. 350 to Block Line Road to allow wide-load vehicles to bypass College Ave., is currently being chip-sealed. The first layer of chip seal has been laid, with the second layer to be applied in the next two days. Fritz said the crews, from Lone Wolf Construction, LLC, in Colleyville, are waiting on fencing and coated seal-coating rock to arrive.
“They told me they’re hoping to have it done by the weekend,” Fritz said. “It should be drivable by the end of the week or beginning of next week. Once it is able to be driven on, they want as much traffic as possible so they can make sure it is durable.”
Commissioners voted in April 2014 to use $2,074,427 from the Texas Department of Transportation infrastructure fund grant program to help pay for the truck bypass. Scurry County paid 20 percent of the project’s cost.
In March 2016, commissioners approved the $1,529,573 bid from Lone Wolf Construction to be the contractors for the project.
Fritz said he is pleased the project is finishing ahead of schedule.
“We’re finishing nearly six weeks early, so we’re thrilled about that,” Fritz said.
