Chamber President Linda Molina announced Monday that she has canceled the chamber banquet, originally scheduled April 23.
“It’s because it was going to be about 300 people or more, and it’s too close to the Coronavirus right now,” Molina said. “We’re hoping that it’s passed by June, because we definitely want to keep our Western Swing Festival (scheduled June 10-13).”
Chamber board members discussed the possibility of postponing the banquet to a later date, but ultimately decided to cancel it for this year.
“We’re going to start getting busy in June, and then our Fourth of July, it just wouldn’t be a good time to bring it back. It will be easier just to put it off to next year,” Molina said.
The Chamber board also approved more than $65,000 in Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund disbursements for upcoming local events, but warned that the Chamber will be holding on to the money until the scheduled dates of the events draw closer.
“Merle has already mentioned that he believes we should hold these funds and make sure the events are going forward,” said chairman-elect Keith Herrley, who chaired the meeting.
Circle Bar Ranch Motorsports gave its funding request presentation at the Chamber board meeting. The event organizers was hospitalized and unable to be at the HOT Fund Committee meeting. Circle Bar Ranch requested $7,500 for their motorsports event scheduled May 1 through 3. The Chamber board approved $5,000 and the other committee recommendations.
The Chamber board also approved C’Ella Clayton as a new board member.
Clayton owns Sun Candy Tanning.
