In a meeting lasting less than 20 minutes Monday evening, Snyder Chamber of Commerce board members discussed plans for the upcoming Chamber Banquet, scheduled April 23 at the Coliseum.
Chamber Events Coordinator Josh Ortegon said plans for the banquet are going well.
“We’re bringing in the Dueling Piano Company again,” Ortegon said. “This will be the second time. We had them first in 2015, and they were a huge hit. I think everybody had a great time. We wanted to wait a little while before we brought them back.”
Ortegon said Blackland Smokehouse will cater the banquet.
“That’s a little different for us because we normally have Great Western Dining cater,” he said. “We thought we’d change it up a little bit.”
Ortegon said tickets are $35, plus a $3 convenience fee if ordered online through eventbrite.com.
Sponsorships are available as well, he said, and cost $250 for a half-table and $500 for a full table.
During the banquet, the Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards will be presented.cIn other business, Chamber Office Manager Sandra Salinas gave a report on Leadership Snyder’s upcoming trip to Austin.
“We have a field trip to go to the capitol,” she said. “We are going on March 10 and coming back on the 11th. I’m working with a gentleman from the state capitol to get us an itinerary for our leadership class, so I am waiting to hear back from him. We’re getting shirts made for our trip, and everybody’s excited about it. Not very many of us are going, but that’s okay. The ones who are going are excited.”
Salinas said the current Leadership Snyder class has two more sessions: the Austin trip and a class in April on economic development.
Ortegon reported on a recent trip to the Texas Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus conference site in South Padre.
Ortegon said he and Snyder Chamber Executive Director Linda Molina are involved in planning the conference.
“We got a lot done. We toured a lot of areas,” Ortegon said. “We toured a lot of conference rooms and just really got to know the business aspects of South Padre. We got a lot done. We made really good friends with their chamber board and their chamber. I think we have a really good conference coming up, very informative, and right now we’re looking for guest speakers and motivational speakers to speak at the conference as well.”
Before adjourning, the Chamber board heard a list of upcoming local events scheduled from now until the end of March.
