The Snyder Chamber of Commerce will focus its attention on White Buffalo Days after canceling its Fourth of July Celebration.

Chamber of Commerce President Linda Molina said that the biggest concern was the safety of the community.

“Our 4th of July is pretty packed, and there is no way we would be able to social distance. We get pretty close to 5,000 people,” she said earlier this week. “With 18 cases and 192 pending (22 and 252 as of Friday), if we were to do the 4th of July, people from out of town would come, and it could grow the numbers.”

The chamber still hopes to have a fireworks show. Because people would be able to social distance during fireworks, Administrator Sandra Salinas said that she was in the process of working with a supplier and pyrotechnician to put together a display.

The next big event on the table for the Chamber is the White Buffalo Days, slated for early October.

“We’re praying that by October, things will change,” Molina said. “We’re going to try to make White Buffalo Days as big as we can.”

“We really want to come back and have White Buffalo Days be bigger and better, especially since it will be our first big event to actually put on this year, fingers crossed,” Events Coordinator Josh Ortegon said.
