The Snyder Chamber of Commerce board of directors believe that a slight change in scheduling will help them be more efficient in disbursing hotel and occupancy tax (HOT) funds during the year.
During its Monday meeting, the chamber board decided to change the months in which the HOT fund committee meets, starting in 2019. Meetings then will be held a month later than they have been the past few years.
Board member Jason Cave said tweaking the committee’s schedule will give members a better idea as to just how much money is available to help finance events in Snyder.
“The months we receive the most HOT funds are February, May, August and November,” Cave said. “If we move the committee meetings to a month after those dates, we’ll know exactly how much money is in the account.”
The committee has never been in danger of exhausting the HOT fund account, but this change will take any guesswork out of the committee’s work, he said.
“We’ve always done fine, but this way, we’ll know exactly what we’re looking at,” he said.
Starting in 2019, the HOT fund committee will meet in March, June, September and December.
Also Monday, the chamber board approved the following HOT fund disbursements:
• $1,350 to the chamber of commerce for expenses incurred during the Solar Car Challenge in July. The chamber had requested $1,750.
• $5,000, the amount requested, to the chamber to help with expenses for the upcoming White Buffalo Trade Days.
• $6,000 to organizers of the upcoming Snyder Bike Rally. They had requested $10,000.
• $1,175, the amount requested, to the Scurry County Museum to help fund the upcoming Plein Air on the Square Art Show.

• $1,500 to organizers of the upcoming Holly-Days Bazaar, scheduled for Oct. 25-28 at The Coliseum. They had requested $7,000.
