The 20th annual West Texas Western Swing Festival was a success, Snyder Chamber of Commerce Events Coordinator Josh Ortegon said during Monday’s board of directors’ meeting.
Ortegon said the crowd appeared to be bigger than in past years, and said all those involved in next year’s event should prepare for more people.
“Western Swing went amazingly,” Ortegon said. “I felt like every night we had more people than last year. Next year, we will have to find more seating. We were constantly trying to find places for people to sit because it was so busy.”
Ortegon said after the meeting that the official ticket count has not been finalized.
Chamber Executive Director Linda Molina said she received a lot of positive feedback from visitors about the local hotels and motels.  Molina said the motels were “very accommodating” as far as pricing, and said the response overall was great.
“They were all really happy with where they stayed,” Molina said. “I had a lot of people from out of town who said they would come back and would stay at our motels again.”
Molina also gave a report about the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executive conference in Corpus Christi, which she, Ortegon and Administrative Assistant Sandra Salinas attended.
“I think it went really well,” Molina said. “It’s always great when you can mingle with people who are doing the same thing you are or who are going through the same troubles you are. They always have really good advice and are willing to share whatever they have. Everybody wants everybody to succeed in their community.”
The board discussed upcoming events, including a ribbon-cutting for Laura’s Furniture and Appliance on Friday, the Freedom Run 5k/10k on Saturday and the annual Fourth of July celebration at Towle Park on Sunday and Monday. Ortegon said 51 outdoor vendors registered for the event.
The board took no action after a closed session.
