First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Snyder’s youth group has devised a tasty way to raise money for mission trips.

Reveal Student Ministry will host a chili cook-off and dessert auction Nov. 4 to raise money for two upcoming mission trips.

David Pruitt, youth pastor at FUMC, said the church youth will travel to the Faith City homeless shelter in Amarillo next spring break and to Arkansas next summer for a mission trip and were looking for ways to raise money.

“We were trying to think of a fundraiser we haven’t done, and we thought a cook-off would be a good way to bring the community together, as well as help us finance our two trips,” Pruitt said.

The entry fee for the cook-off is $50 per entry.

The chili should be prepared off-site and brought to the church at noon on Nov. 4.

“Please keep in mind that this fundraiser is open to the community, so please be sure to prepare for a good crowd,” Pruitt said. “We will have a panel of judges who will decide the top chili.”

Once judging is complete, around 12:30 p.m., chili will be served to the public for $10 a plate. Cornbread and sweet tea are included.

In addition, community members may provide a dessert to be auctioned during the event, Pruitt said.
