Chocolate Fest, a one-night event that includes wine, chocolate, live art and live music, is a great setting for an early Valentine’s Day date.

The Scurry County Museum’s annual fundraiser will be on the downtown square Saturday evening.

“One of the big things we have will be a new photography show Alchemical (Im)Possibilities at the 1818 Arthouse,” Museum Director Daniel Schlegel Jr. said. “We had about 85 entries, and only about a third of the entries made it into the show.”

Local musician Lori Sealy will perform and local artist Nathalie Kelley will paint at the 1818 Arthouse.

Two doors down from the 1818 Arthouse, the Ritz Community Theatre will also be open for Chocolate Fest.

“The Ritz has agreed to be open and will serve non-alcoholic beverages,” Schlegel said. “Inside, artist June Musick will do live painting, and we’ll have a paint splatter available outside, weather-permitting.”

The former Manhattan Hotel building will have chocolate, wine and chocolate beer tastings. Wine and chocolate tastings will also be available at the 1818 Arthouse.

Kelley and Musick’s paintings will be auctioned off during the evening, and all proceeds will benefit the museum.

“It’s about keeping the museum open and operational,” Schlegel said. “Having these fundraisers is why we have free admission and free events.”

Chocolate Fest will be held at the downtown square from 6-8 p.m. Saturday. The event is open to adults ages 21 and up and tickets are $25. Tickets may be purchased at the museum or online at http://scurrycountymuseum.org/category/news/.
