Christmas activities set throughout weekend

Snyder will usher in the Christmas season with several activities this weekend.
Today, Historic Scurry County, Inc., will host Heritage Village Christmas from 5-8 p.m. The locomotive will be converted into the Polar Express for the evening and photos will begin at 4 p.m.
Entertainment will include choirs from Snyder Primary School, Snyder Intermediate School and Snyder Junior High School, as well as the Snyder High School jazz band. Children will be able to watch Santa enter the village in an antique vehicle at 5:15 p.m. and will be able to send Santa a letter from the Dunn Post Office.
A bake sale will be held inside the Dermott School, where children will be able to visit with Santa and take pictures. Games will include sack races, ring the reindeer and toilet tissue toss in the outhouse.
Each building will be open and four were decorated by employees of local financial institutions. The public, through a donation, will vote on the best decorated building.
For a donation, Jerry Starr will give haircuts in the Fluvanna Barbershop. The Pete Snyder Store will also be open and hot biscuits and coffee available.
All proceeds from the event will be used to paint the Redwood Chapel and make other needed repairs at the village.
The Scurry County Museum will host Magic of Christmas from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Admission is $10 for adults (17 years and older), $5 for children and youth (ages 10-17) and free for children nine and under. One child will be admitted for free with each paid adult.
The Snyder Intermediate School fifth grade choir is scheduled to perform.
Li’l Miss and Mr. Christmas and the decorated Christmas tree winners will be announced at 11 a.m.
The fifth annual Snyder Trade Days will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Towle Park barn and armory. Booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Santa Claus is scheduled to visit the event.
A Very Texas Christmas is the theme for the annual Snyder Chamber of Commerce lighted Christmas parade and tree lighting Saturday night. Activities will begin at 5:30 p.m., weather permitting, around the square. Music and food vendors will be set up around the square and Santa Claus will be in the downtown plaza following the tree lighting ceremony.
Kendallie’s Dance and Performing Arts students will perform at 5:30 p.m. in the downtown plaza.
Snyder Primary School’s third grade classes will sing at 6 p.m. on the north steps of the Scurry County Courthouse.
Parade entries will begin lining up at 5:30 p.m. at the Snyder Shopping Center, located in the 3500 block of College Ave. The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. and travel toward the downtown area and around the square.
After the parade, Santa Claus is scheduled to land by helicopter, weather permitting, on the First Baptist Church parking lot.
The tree lighting ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Santa Claus will visit the Scurry County Library at 6 p.m. Dec. 8. Activities will begin at 5:30 p.m. and Santa will be at the library until 8:30 p.m.
Santa will visit with children and be available for pictures. One picture will be provided free to each family and parents may also take their own pictures. To receive the free picture, all fines must be cleared.
