The City of Snyder has a new alert system that features additional ways to inform the public about impending weather issues and other emergencies, as well as waterline disruptions.
The Code Red system has been replaced with the Scurry County Management System and people will have to re-register to receive alerts. City Technology Director David Nicholson said the new system is online and he is working to add information to help the public.
The site will include information from the Federal Emergency Management Agency on how to prepare for a natural disaster or other emergencies. Nicholson said he is reviewing the information to make sure it applies to Snyder and West Texas.
Among the features that will be included in the new website, which may be accessed through the city’s website, will be a list of approved shelters that residents may use during a emergency. Nicholson said that information was available at the Snyder Fire Department.
When registering, residents may also choose what type of alerts they would like to receive. Alerts can come via email, text or phone call. Residents may choose one or all three options in the selection menu.
Nicholson said one of the reasons to change over to the new system was it offered different alerts.
The city’s website is http://ci.snyder.tx.us/ and the alert button is on the lower right hand side of the home page.
Residents may also register by calling city hall at 573-4957.
