At the close of filing Friday, only one challenger had filed to oppose an incumbent in the May 2 election, in which 12 seats divided among four local entities were up for grabs.
The challenger, Mitch Hickman, filed paperwork in early February to oppose Snyder City Council incumbent Steve Rich for the District 2 seat.
All 12 incumbents filed for re-election.
Those incumbents include, in addition to Rich, three other Snyder city councilmen: from District 1, Vernon Clay, from District 3, Steve Highfield and from District 4, Thomas Strayhorn.
For the Snyder Independent School District, incumbents Ronnie Anderson, District 1, Carrie Richardson, District 4, and Doug Neff, District 5, have filed to retain their seats.
Incumbents Drew Bullard, Place 1, and Mike McWilliams, Place 2, have filed to seek their seats on the Scurry County Junior College District’s board of trustees; while incumbents Loretta McCravey, District 2, Benny Marricle, District 4 and Andrea Martini in an at-large seat have filed to retain their seats on the Scurry County Hospital District’s board of directors. Unopposed candidates will win their seats by default, and those elections will be canceled.
Early voting for the May 2 Sndyer City Council election will be April 20-24 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on April 27 and 28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Early voting and Election Day voting will be held at College on the Square, located at 1801 26th Street.
Ira ISD and Hermleigh ISD will not participate in the May election, and will instead hold their next elections in November.
