For the second straight year, sales tax allocations for Snyder and Scurry County were lower than the previous year’s total, according to figures released by the Texas Comptroller’s office.
For the calendar year, Snyder collected more than $2.6 million, down 25.79 percent compared to a year ago when more than $3.5 million was collected. Snyder received more than $4 million in allocations in 2013 ($4.1 million) and 2014 ($4.3 million).
The 2016 city total was lower than 2010, when $2.61 million was collected.
Scurry County’s year-end total was more than $1.5 million, down 18.18 percent compared to 2015’s total of more than $1.9 million. The county’s highest allocation in the past seven years was in 2014 when more than $2.6 million was collected.
The monthly allocations represent sales made in October.
The city will receive $189,606 this month, down 24.4 percent compared to the December 2015 total of $250,824.
December was the fifth month of the year in which allocations were below $200,000. The city also received less than $200,000 in March, April, June and July.
This month, the county will receive $130,266 from the state, 24.66 percent less than December 2015’s total of $172,921.
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $627.6 million in local sales tax allocations for December, 0.2 percent more than in December 2015.
“The cities of Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, El Paso and San Antonio continue to see significant increases in sales tax allocations,” Hegar said. “The cities of Houston, Sugar Land and Plano saw noticeable decreases in sales tax allocations.”
