People spent more money holiday shopping in Snyder during December 2016 than December 2015, according to sales tax allocation figures released by the Texas Comptroller’s office this week.

The City of Snyder will receive $275,343 in allocations this month from sales made in December or from sales reported by businesses and companies that report by the quarter or annually.

This month’s allocation is nearly 1 percent more than last year’s $272,728, but it is the second straight month that allocations topped the month-to-month total.

For the year, the city has received $485,232, a 2.2 percent increase compared to 2016’s two-month total of $474,754.

Scurry County had a 14.49 percent increase in allocations this month.

The county is scheduled to receive $200,250 this month, which is up compared to the $174,901 returned in February 2016.

For the year, the county is trending ahead by 7.26 percent. Over the first two months of 2017, the county has received $335,548 in allocation, up from $312,817 returned over the same time period in 2016.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $858.6 million in local sales tax allocations for February, 1 percent less than in February 2016.

“The cities of Houston, Midland and San Antonio saw noticeable decreases in sales tax allocations,” Hegar said. “The cities of Round Rock, Frisco and Irving saw noticeable increases in sales tax allocations.”

Midland’s allocations were down 17.42 percent while Houston was down 5.2 percent and San Antonio 3.56 percent.

Round Rock saw a 16.04 percent increase while Irving and Frisco were up by 8.21 percent and 8.01 percent, respectively, the figures showed.
