The Cogdell Family Clinic has seen many patients with flu-like symptoms, but no confirmed cases of the flu have been diagnosed, according to clinic manager Kevin Williams.
“We are certainly seeing a spike in the number of patients with symptoms,” he said.
People have made appointments with cold and flu symptoms and Williams said if a person is having trouble getting healthy, they should schedule an appointment.
“If you are feeling bad and the over-the-counter medication is not working, call and schedule an appointment,” he said. “We will do our best to get you in the same day you call. It may not happen, but we will do our best.”
Unlike a cold, flu symptoms usually come on suddenly. Another key difference is a fever, which might not happen with a cold. Other symptoms of the flu are severe aches in muscles and joints, pain and tiredness around the eyes, weakness or extreme fatigue, warm, flushed skin and red, watery eyes, headache, dry cough, sore throat and runny nose.
Williams said the clinic and hospital has flu stations set up for the public. The stations include masks, tissue and hand sanitizer.
The clinic’s environmental team cleans the waiting area twice a day to help prevent germs from spreading.
Williams said people can protect themselves from the flu by sanitizing high-traffic areas and staying away from people who are sick.
