Need a place for those spare, gently used clothes cluttering up your closet?
Then local organizations have just the event for you.
The Scurry County Ministerial Alliance, Snyder Community Resource Center (SCRC) and Snyder ISD are hosting a clothing and coat drive for this year’s Back To School Bash, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at Snyder Junior High School.
At the Back To School Bash, local businesses and organizations provide information about their services, school supplies and other giveaways to students before they return to school.
“The clothing drive is something we did last year, and this year we added coats,” SCRC Marketing Director Jessica Robbins said. “Last year, we did $1 per bag of clothing, and you could fill up your bag. All of the profits went to the Snyder Shares Free Store. We’re going to do the same thing this year but with a different nonprofit. This gives people a sense of helping the community while still meeting their own needs.”
Donations of gently used clothing for newborns through juniors, new in-package undergarments, winter coats of all sizes and gently used backpacks are being accepted at locations around town.
“Undergarments were a big need last year, so we definitely need those this year,” Robbins said. “Just make sure that they’re new and in their package.”
Items may be dropped off at Snyder Daily News, Scurry County Library, Snyder Fire Department, Snyder Chamber of Commerce, SCRC, Cogdell Memorial Hospital and area churches.
Donations will be accepted through July 20.
Businesses or organizations interested in being a sponsor may contact Robbins at 436-0294.
