Cogdell Memorial Hospital is kicking off American Heart Month with an Healthy Heart Art Contest.
Students from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade are invited to participate in the contest. Tara Camp, Cogdell’s marketing coordinator, said that entry forms had been dropped off at Snyder ISD, Ira ISD, Hermleigh ISD and Snyder Christian School. The competition is also open to homeschooled children as well, but they will need to pick up an entry form from the hospital or print one from Cogdell’s website under the News and Events tab.
Entries must name three ways in which a person can be heart healthy, such as exercising, eating healthy, or getting a check-up, and draw a picture of someone doing one or more of the examples.
Camp said that there would be three winners in each grade level, with first place winning a Cinema Snyder movie ticket, second place winning a free kids buffet from Pizza Inn, and third place winning a five dollar Sonic gift card.
In addition to those winners, Camp said that in order to incentivize teachers to have their classes participate, Cogdell would give a gift basket full of goodies to the teacher with the highest participation rate. Some of the items included were Walmart and Amore gift cards and much more, even a 30 minute massage.
In conjunction with the art contest, in order to encourage children to be more active, Cogdell is sending Team Chip Tae Kwon Do Sweetwater, a martial arts demonstration team, to local schools to perform for the children.
“Last year was the first year we decided to start doing some performances. We had the Sweetwater jumprope team come out last year to perform for the local schools,” Camp said. “We try to find something that encourages kids to be active, so every year we’re always trying to see if we can find some other form of being healthy and getting them moving.”
Entries are due at the hospital by Feb. 7.
Winners will be announced by Feb. 13.
