Scurry County commissioners, sitting as both commissioners and the advisory board for Hermleigh Water Works (HWW), will meet Tuesday to consider filling the position of the water works’ operation manager.
Commissioners held closed-door interviews with two candidates last Tuesday, but took no action, saying they wanted to investigate whether contracting the service would be cheaper for the county.
County Judge Dan Hicks said the county will not solicit more applications for the position. Commissioners believe the utility’s duties can be handled by a conractor at a lower cost to taxpayers than a full-time county employee.
The manager’s salary had been advertised at $34,612, plus benefits
The board will conduct a closed session to discuss the operations manager position. When they reconvene in open session, they will discuss filling and setting a salary for the position.
In other business, commissioners will consider giving County Judge Dan Hicks authority to sign all documents regarding the Hermleigh Water Works department, as well as setting specifications and qualifications for the operations manager, requesting proposals and setting a timeline.
Tuesday’s meeting begins at 10 a.m. in the third floor courtroom of the county courthouse. It is open to the public and time has been set aside for public comment on non-agenda items.
