Fire Marshal Nathan Hines advised Scurry County commissioners on Thursday to lift the county’s burn ban, which began on Sept. 10, 2019.
“We’ve been blessed with quite a bit of moisture. (Fire Department Chief Perry Westmoreland and I) recommend lifting the burn ban,” Hines said.
He noted that the Snyder Fire Department would keep a close eye on the moisture in the area and notify the commissioners if the ban needed to be reinstated.
“As much moisture as we have and water standing in places, I think we’re good for a while,” Hines said.
After going over the rules for burning controlled fires, the court voted unanimously to lift the burn ban.
They also approved one line item transfer of $6,100 for capital equipment to complete the purchase of a vehicle for the Scurry County Health Unit after use of grant funds and one budget amendment of $26,665 in capital outlay for using unused funds to purchase a used vehicle for Precinct 2.
