The Snyder City Council will take the next step toward annexing 28 acres along U.S. Hwy. 84 that will be the future home of Blake Fulenwider Dodge when it meets Monday.
The council will hold a pair of back-to-back public hearings on the annexation beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The council will also vote on several appointments and re-appointments to city committees, including re-appointing Tom Martin and Richard Reed to the Builders’ Board of Appeal, Keith Pitner and Jon Lewis to the Planning and Zoning Commission and Duane Seay and Joe Dan Jones — as well as appointing someone to take the place of John Shirley, who has moved to Abilene — to the Zoning Board of Adjustments.
The council will also hear and vote on the second reading of an ordinance abandoning the 1800 Block of 9th Street at the request of the owners of Southern Electric. The street runs between the hardware store and its lumber yard, and the request was made to make the area more safe. It will also vote on a replat of that area.
According to Southern Electric co-owner Richard Reed, the business will install gates at either end of the block, which will allow utilities to access their rights-of-way.
The council will also vote on a Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation that would change a lot at 2208 Ave. T from light manufacturing to residential so that the property owner may install a manufactured home on the lot.
Changes to the city ordinance regulating solicitation in the public right-of-way will also be voted on by the council after complaints of aggressive solicitors in the downtown area were received. The changes include a list of 10 intersections where soliciting will not be allowed unless prior permission is granted.
The council will also vote to change the existing off-street parking space guidelines that would allow businesses to have one spot for every 100-square feet of building space as opposed to the current one spot for every 50-square feet of building space. If approved, it would allow fewer parking spaces for a larger building.
The council is also going to vote on whether to accept a $55,683 bid for a tractor from Hurst Farm Supply in Lubbock. The bid came through the buy board and is $683 over what was budgeted for the tractor.
The Snyder Chamber of Commerce will present its annual report for approval and details of the new employee health insurance plan will be presented for approval. The council will also discuss property tax liens.
The council will also hold a pair of closed sessions, one to discuss public power competitive matters and another to discuss real property. The council held closed sessions during its last meeting on the same two items, taking no action on the public power matters and giving City Manager Merle Taylor authority to continue negotiations on the real property.
The meeting and public hearings begin at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers at Snyder City Hall and are open to the public.
