While 2020 Census response rates are exceeding projections nationwide, Snyder and Scurry County are tracking behind state and national rates.

In Snyder, the response rate is 51.4 percent, while countywide it is 39.2 percent, according to the website 2020census.gov.

Texas’ statewide response rate is 55.5 percent. More than 60 percent of U.S. households have responded to the 2020 Census, with approximately 80 percent responding online at 2020census.gov. Current internet self-response rates are 9.2 percentage points above Census Bureau projections, as households continue to favor online to phone and mail in responding to the census.

According to data from 2020census.gov, Nolan County has the highest response rate in the area at 49.4 percent, while Borden County has the lowest response rate in the area at 28.4 percent. Other area county rates are Howard, 46 percent; Fisher, 44.3 percent; Garza, 40.4 percent; and Mitchell, 38 percent.

The results of the 2020 Census will help determine how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding flow into communities every year for the next decade. That funding shapes many different aspects of every community, no matter the size, no matter the location.

Census data helps communities respond to natural disasters and secure funding for hospitals and fire departments during disasters like the COVID-19 pandemic. Disaster-related funding is often determined on a per capita basis. The 2020 Census may be completed online at https://my2020census.gov/.
