County grand jury indicts four people on felonies

Four people were arrested after being indicted by a Scurry County grand jury earlier this week.
Torrance LeAndrew Bean, 42, of Snyder, was indicted for third degree felony unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and state jail felony burglary of a building, both charges stemming from an incident on March 9, when he was arrested in the 3700 block of Avondale Ave. In addition to the indictment charges, he was also jailed for resisting arrest and on a parole violation warrant.
According to the firearm indictment, Bean was arrested on March 9 for possessing a firearm prior to the fifth anniversary of his release from prison. According to the indictment, Bean was convicted in Scurry County in 1997 for burglary of a building. He was also arrested on March 9 for burglarizing another building in Scurry County.
The indictment also stated Bean was convicted in Scurry County for sexual assault in August 1997.
His bonds totaled $10,000 on the latest charges
Christopher Brian Ferguson, 37, of Snyder, was indicted for third degree felony driving while intoxicated. He was arrested on Dec. 15 and charged with operating a motor vehicle while having a blood alcohol concentration of at least 0.08.
Ferguson’s charge was elevated to felony status because of two prior driving while intoxicated convictions — in February 2007 in Wise County and in January 2014 in Scurry County.
His bond was set at $5,000.
Melissa Jean Ward, 39, of Snyder, was indicted on the state jail felony charge of burglary of a building. She was charged with entering a building and attempting to commit theft of property.
Her bond was set at $5,000.
Crystal May Berkley, 33, of Snyder, was indicted for state jail felony theft. She was charged with stealing clothing accessories and phone chargers from the 7-Eleven convenience store on Coliseum Drive on Nov. 23.
Berkley’s charge was elevated to felony status because of two prior theft convictions — in February 2015 in Scurry County and in June 2018 in Lubbock County. She was also convicted of assault causing bodily injury to a public servant in Tarrant County in January 2003 and possessing a prohibited substance in a correctional facility in Tarrant County in September 2005.
Her bond was set at $5,000.
