County listed as abnormally dry

A majority of Scurry County is listed as abnormally dry, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor map.
The abnormally dry rating is the lowest of the five drought stages. All of Mitchell and Sterling counties are listed as abnormally dry. The eastern portion of Howard County is also listed as abnormally dry. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, 44.8 percent of the state is listed as abnormally dry while 3.57 percent of the state is in a moderate drought stage.
The National Weather Service is forecasting rain for Scurry County this weekend. A 20 percent of showers is in the Sunday forecast and that will increase to 30 percent during the evening hours.
