For the second time this year, Scurry County’s sales tax allocations topped $210,000, according to the State Comptroller’s office.
The county is scheduled to receive $210,408 from sales made in August. The only other time the county received more than $200,000 this year was January’s $231,018. The October 2018 total is 7.18 percent more than October 2017’s $196,297.
For the year, the county has received more than $1.78 million in allocations, down 25.79 percent compared to 2017 when more than $2.4 million was returned through the first 10 months.  The county’s 2017 total included a one-time audit payment of $627,302 received in May 2017.
The city will receive $272,762 this month, up 12.95 percent compared to the October 2017 total of $241,486.
Year-to-date, the city has received nearly $2.6 million, up 14.25 percent compared to the 2017 10-month total of more than $2.27 million.
Snyder Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Linda Molina said several business owners have told her that they are seeing more sales.
“The economy is beginning to pick up. Many merchants have told me that they are seeing more people coming into the stores,” she said. “Restaurant owners are telling me the same thing. Everyone seems to be seeing more shoppers, which is a good thing for Snyder.”
Cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts will receive $735.9 million in local sales tax allocations this month.
